One Plus X: Everything you need to know

After weeks of speculations, OnePlus has finally released their third smartphone. “The One plus X” .At an event launch in central London, OnePlus unveiled  two variants of the OnePlus X both basically same except for the difference in design material one’s  onyx(glass) while the other is ceramic. “The One Plus X is a design centric device built to find the perfect balance of style and performance powerful enough to fit any lifestyle” were the words of OnePlus CEO Pete Lau and I couldn’t agree more seeing its specifications

The OnePlus X is expected to run Oxygen OS (Android 5.1.1) on a 5″ AMOLED full HD display and black glass backplate with a metal bezel. It weighs in at 4.86oz (138g), making it the company’s lightest device yet. In terms of overall size, it measures 140mm x 69mm x 6.9mm, which also makes it the smallest OnePlus device yet. While it only comes with 16GB of onboard storage, it does come with two SIM card slots one of which doubles as a microSD slot that can expand the storage up to 128GB making it the first OnePlus phone to feature expandable storage and it comes with a non-removable 2,525 mAh LiPo battery.

The ceramic version of the X edition which was built for higher damage resistant will be rolling out in a limited run of 10,000 unit and is priced at $349, $100 over the base price and is limited primarily to Europe. For the first month the OnePlus X will be available via invite only and after that there’ll be open sales weekly after OnePlus has ascertained that the production can keep up with the demand. The OnePlus X Onyx edition starts shipping out in Europe from November 5 while the ceramic edition goes on sale in Europe and India starting from November 24. To get your invite, click Here.

LUMIA 950XL, 950 & 550: Everything you need to know

Microsoft few days back announced its flagship and entry devices to have dropped the Nokia branding and will be carrying the new Windows 10, in the shape of the 950XL, 950 & 550, so here’s what to expect from Microsoft’s latest devices.

LUMIA 950XL & 950lumia-950-950xl

The Lumia 950XL & 950 are Microsofts new Windows 10 flagship devices more or less the King and Queen of the day’s event. The Lumia 950XL is a 5.7″ Quad HD AMOLED display with the latest generation Snapdragon 810 chip while the Lumia 950 comes with a smaller 5.2″ Quad HD AMOLED display and Snapdragon 808 chip. The two flagships are protected with Gorilla Glass 3 and they both offer 3GB of RAM. Both devices battery is removable and with the introduction of the new generation SoC, Microsoft says both devices will have better thermal management, thanks to a newly implemented liquid cooling much like the one found on the Surface Pro 3 so users don’t have to worry about them heating up and still enjoy blazing fast performance

At the back of both flagship devices is a small hump of circular glass (with that of the 950 smaller) inbuilt is a  20MP camera PureView  with ZEISS optics, optical stabilization, 4K video recording and triple LED RGB flash which Microsoft says will fade away red eyes OIS and 4K video recording. Likewise, the front cameras of the Lumia 950XL & 950 offer a 5MP wide-angle to suite selfie lovers. Another neat feature is the introduction of  iris recognition for windows hello lock on both flagships, which should compensate for the lack of fingerprint sensor or similar advanced security tech. With time, I’m sure we’ll be able to tell if its as effective as  the likes of the Galaxy S6iPhone 6S and Nexus 6P, but it certainly sounds like a cool feature.

Both the Lumia 950XL & 950 are Optional Dual SIM with LTE Cat.4 (up to 150Mbps), Cat. 6 LTE (up to 300Mbps), both targeted at rich connectivity and are expected to come with the latest USB Type C port which means rapid charging, as well as making reversible connectors a reality and for those who find cables a bit boring, it may interest you to know that both devices comes packed with Qi wireless charging support out of the box. You can also dock the Lumia 950XL and 950 by extending them to a full-blown desktop via the Microsoft Display Dock using the new Windows 10 continum feature.  By the way, the dock is available for purchase and it adds mouse and keyboard input support giving you a full desktop experience straight from your mobile.

The Lumia 950 XL & 950 will run on windows 10 obviously and both shouldn’t have any trouble coping with the new OS giving that they both have  octa-core Snapdragon chipsets  inside the polycarbonate body they come packed with, and if storage capacity is your thing, the flagship is expected to come with 32GB of internal storage and also a microSD expansion slot. Both the Lumia 950 XL & 950 will sit at at $649 & $549 respectively and will be available on sale starting from November

LUMIA 550Lumia-550.0

The Lumia 550 which was just a passing mention at the tail end of the announcements is just about Microsoft’s low end entry device running on Windows 10  as its targeted for the budget market and sits in the shadows of the 950XL & 950 The device will come with a 4.7” LCD display, a quad-core 1.2GHz Snapdragon 210 a 5mp & 2mp rear and front camera respectively a 8GB ROM expandable with 1GB RAM. Just about enough to replace the Lumia 640 and Lumia 640 XL as Microsoft’s budget phone for developing countries, as well as cost-conscious consumers. The device sits at  $139 and will be available on sale from December in European markets

In conclusion the Lumia 950 XL & 950 look quite similar at a glance except for the increased screen size, battery life & processor on the former both seem like quite a tempting flagship devices to grab and should do well in competing with other OEM’s flagships. However the Lumia 550 even though has lesser features is also just about decent to compete in the budget market. Hopefully, Microsoft’s decision to stick with the old design won’t hurt its sales

The Smartphone Evolution

I remember when Mobile phones was simply used for calling and texting alone maybe some snake gaming in between but it was basically simple,and productive . Looking far back at its evolution and creativity into a smartphone has been awesome. From pixation to messaging, camera, speed, power and not forgetting the internet of things. It’s been a jolly ride of technological advancement and wonders. I spoke with an elderly man in the village some time back and when he saw my 5.5” android device he said “Na the juju wey oyinbo dey use control una be dis” meaning; is this the trick the white man uses to control us? But thinking out of the box, with the high demand of smartphones, manufacturers have raced to improve and offer new features to make interaction with our environment and the world more smarter and then it dawned on me that this might actually be the juju that the old man was talking about because sooner or later this evolution might actually replace the need for other stuffs that was part of our past and present. After the jump is a few things that are gradually getting erased or killed due to this evolution;

CAMERAS:

When last did you see a pocket camera? Pretty much all smartphones come with built in cameras both front and back, some packed with high megapixel sensors higher than stand alone pocket cameras with others like the Lumia 1020 already hurting the sales of high-end SLR equipment. Fact is, most folks who owned pocket cams then have eventually ditched them for their smartphones camera function which is lighter to carry around and most likely better at the shots taken.

BOOKS

Remember those days when the act of reading from a physical book was sacred and it still is for some but since the evolution of e-book apps and e-readers. Smartphones have become a more practical way of reading books that most people have began to fade out the use of physical books. The ability to store and carry multiple books on one device is amazing and personally I enjoy it a lot but thinking outside the box, guessing books will soon become artifacts stored in places like the meuseum. #justsaying.

WALLETS

Mobile banking and services such as Apple Pay, Android Pay are fueling a revolution of folks who no longer have a need for a physical wallet. With more and more merchants jumping on board, and the development of e-currencies such as Bitcoin that run on mobile phones. Even though this features aren’t global yet, am sure in no time will it be functional in all parts of the world and that’ll be us saying our goodbyes to the traditional wallets

MUSIC PLAYERS

Back then you weren’t part of the cool ones if you didn’t have a Walkman, or an ipod to play or store your music but now most people just download and store their music to their smartphones saves them the burden of piling CD’s its super fast and also convenient to switch in between favourites.

WATCHES

Because we spend most of our time pressing our phones we basically rely on them to tell time and now theres smartwatches which synchronises with our smartphones and if youre like me who reaches for his smartphone first thing every morning after being woken up by the alarm which was set on the smartphone and  with the latest rise of Apple watch and Apple wear based devices that bring smartphone functions to our wrists. be sure we’re gradually seeing the end of conventional watches.

There are several other things smartphones are gradually taken over like our Remote controls, Cable Tvs, e.t.c but hey! What doesn’t kill you only makes you stronger right. Am all in for the new revolution of technology but what happens to the hardware’s which made our past???

EaseUs ToDo Backup Review

I’m that kind of guy who hates to lose valuable data and so I try as much to keep them stacked in many places , got introduced to this software by my boss days back and I must say this is probably one of the best free backup/recovery system tool out there. EaseUS Todo Backup is a free and easy to use backup software that lets you create backups of your important files or entire PC/Laptop through its streamlined interface within minutes without the help of an IT specialist. All you just need to do, is just choose the type of backup you’d like to create to get started and chill for the program to do the rest.

The software comes packed with several options of creating backups such as Disk/Partition Backup, File Backup, System Backup, and Smart Backup and all four options work flawlessly well, from complete to selective backups there’s just no stopping for this software. Another great thing about the software is the fact that you can clone your hard drive in the event that you have to switch it out for a new one because it crashed.

Todo1.png2.png3

And when it comes to recovering files, the software quickly recovers your entire Windows system backup using a Linux or WinPE bootable media, because of the disk imaging backup option you can restore all you need in granular files, folders, volumes, or all from a single disk image with an option for you to specify whether you want to recover the files to the original recovery or separate location, and whether or not you’ll like to replace the existing files.

EaseUs Todo Backup  is a user-friendly Windows server backup utility recommended for all PC users, it’s simple, easy to use and fast and best of all its free! Although you get to see popup’s momentarily asking you to upgrade (which is negligible) but other than that, it’s all good on the free software. Want to give it a spin?
